How do I calculate drug reconstitution?
D/H X What you are measuring. D=Desired Amount(or prescribed amount) H= What you have on hand X= Multiply What you are measuring in(cc's; mg;Kg etc.) For Example: Administer Amoxicillin 400 mg q8h Have on Hand: A vial of Amoxicillin powder which will yield 200mg of Amoxicillin per 5cc after reconstituted with 10cc of sterile water. Calculate: D= 400 mg/5cc H=200 mg/5cc 400 divided by 200=2 2 X 5cc= 10cc of Amoxicillin 200mg/5cc is to be administered to give the patient 400mg of Amoxicillin.
